Heavy overnight rain has caused Nepal’s Trishuli River to rise again, briefly halting search-and-rescue operations for thousands still missing after Wednesday’s devastating flash flood and mudslide. When the weather cleared, survivors returned to salvage what remained of their homes.
A resident says her family must start from scratch, but she is grateful to have a place to stay with her parents. Thousands from destroyed villages now shelter in community halls like the one in Bidur, where the critical 72-hour rescue window has closed. More than 100 people are sheltering there, many with relatives still missing.
